The company was formed in 1999 as an internal division of HealthSouth Corporation called HealthSouth Clinical Automation Program (HCAP). The division was created in an effort to reduce the amount of cost that went into paperwork at HealthSouth's 2,000 facilities. In 2001 HCAP was spun off from HealthSouth to create SourceMedical Solutions. The company also moved its corporate headquarters to an office building across from the HealthSouth Corporate Campus on highway 280.
